Celebrities using their fame and fortune to try to branch out in their life’s ventures and aspirations is nothing new. That being said, this one may surprise you—R&B singer Ray J and his business partner Billy Jones have brought a new E-Bike named the Scoot-E-Bike to the market under the brand name Raytroniks. The Chinese-made E-Bike sells for $1,299 online and has been endorsed by Justin Bieber, Diddy, Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, and the Game.
“I don’t think people should look at it just like it’s a celebrity brand, because I’m really trying to stay in the background,” says Ray J in a piece with Mashable
He seems intent on making sure people know this isn’t a gimmick with his name on it, but a quality product. When asked about fire concerns similar to those of the “hoverboards” that every celebrity had six months ago, he & his partner responded,
We won’t have this happen like the hoverboard, where it’s an unsafe product, so we’re doing everything we can to make sure this is the safest product. Safety is important and we believe in the product,” says Ray J. But he also adds, “I wouldn’t suggest that you leave any of these [battery-powered products] products plugged in overnight, whether it’s the hoverboard or an electric bike.”
“Our [China-based] manufacturer has given us all their approved [safety] documents,” says Jones. “At the moment, that’s what we can go off of.”
They have opened one brick and mortar store in LA, with more cities planned. Through intense marketing they appear to be dead serious in convincing you that this is not a toy, but a viable alternative as city transportation. Only time will tell. Would you want one? Is the price reasonable in your opinion? Check out the promo video and let us know what you think in the comments.
