I’m an 80’s baby, 1985 to be exact. I grew up watching He-Man, Voltron, G.I. Joe, and my favorite cartoon, The X-Men. I don’t know what has happened to childhood entertainment since my upbringing, but let’s all have a moment of honesty and admit that we knew the glory days were over after only one episode of The Power Rangers. I don’t even want to know what’s currently airing on Saturday mornings (but to each his own).
A rough disposition and six indestructible claws have made Wolverine a fan-favorite among the many characters portrayed throughout the cartoon’s history. While he has always had a hostile and occasionally selfish attitude, the modern movies have failed to present one aspect of how he was originally meant to be portrayed— his Christian faith.
I had actually forgotten about it until someone shared the following video clip with me. This brief portion gives us the storyline of when the X-Men met Nightcrawler. Once considered a circus sideshow, he had drifted through life until landing at a monastery, converting to Christianity, and becoming a monk. In this scene, he engages in Christian apologetics while witnessing to the other characters, with an emphasis on Wolverine. Watch below to see how Wolverine reacts.
