Money is a big part of life. It isn’t good or bad, but it can be used for good and evil. As believers, we should bring honor to God in every area of our life. Surprisingly, I found this verse helps me glory to God and honor Him with my attitudes toward money:
“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32
The verse helps me see many things about how I can worship God when it comes to my attitudes and relationships with money. They are based on these two words—”fear not”. God is commanding us to not be afraid when it comes to money. We shouldn’t be afraid, we shouldn’t be anxious, and we shouldn’t worry. Once this mindset became a true part of my life, I was able to make strides to minimize fear and anxiety when it comes to my finances.
These three points are a great help for me when I must overcome battles of fear and anxiety over money-related matters:
“Fear not, little flock…” When we are not afraid, we see God as shepherd. It brings to mind Psalms 23:1 “The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.” He’s the good shepherd who takes care of His sheep.
“Fear not, little flock; for its your Father’s…” This helps me treasure God as my Father. He’s a good father. Your Father knows the things you need, so, it’s best to realize this truth and not confuse that with what we think we need. As God being our Father it’s essential that we have no agenda but His. We need to be sure we are not defining what we need when we approach Him. Instead, we should come to Him and learn what we need. Father knows best.
“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” This helps us see God as our generous King. It’s His good pleasure to give you the kingdom. He is the sovereign generous King who wants to, because it’s His pleasure to give us the kingdom. Not to sell, lease, or rent it to us. When we grasp this, we can trust His generosity and overcome fear of lack, knowing it’s God’s good pleasure to give us what is most valuable.
When we trust, and treasure Him as shepherd, Father, King, and appreciate His generosity we can drastically change our attitudes. By implementing this mindset, even when things are difficult, we can overcome fear and anxiety in our situations or setbacks and God gets the glory.
I must admit this was not automatic for me and I have purposed in my heart to tell myself this daily. I want God to get the glory in every area of my life and I will make no excuses about it, even when it comes to money.
