Joel Osteen Explains Why He Doesn’t Preach About Hell

Joel Osteen discusses his upcoming book after he and his wife, Victoria Osteen finished leading a worship service, Sunday, at Lakewood Church, the congregation he took over 8 years ago after the death of his father, John Osteen, founder of the institution. The younger Osteen moved the congregation from its outgrown northeast Houston established site to the building formerly known as the Compaq Center and before that as the Summit, where the Houston Rockets won two championships, circuses entertained with clowns, tigers and elephants and numerous rock stars had packed audiences on their feet, not unlike today's service. Dodie Osteen, John's widow and Joel's mother, sat near him during parts of the service. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, in Houston. (Steve Ueckert / Chronicle)

Do We Really Understand the Command “Love Thy Neighbor As Thyself”?

neighbor

Just when I think I’ve discovered the rock bottom depth of what pride has done to human beings, I find another way it has creeped into the makeup of our fallen nature.  I haven’t completely worked this out in my head, but it seems to be related to every sin we …
